Beeswax Play with Sunii

My brother and I decided to melt all the candles in the house and make new ones. Mom said she was happy we were recycling the candles because they were very expensive and she hated to waste them. So we made her a special candle. It took us a while to clean up. But we had a lot of fun!!!! Our sister was a little annoyed because most of the mess was on "her place" (where she sits for dinner) so we had to clean up really well.

Living My Life in Costume

I have not posted a lot lately because I've been so busy. I auditioned for the Nutcracker, the Ballet Dracula and I am a fairy at the Renassaince Festival again this year (my third year). The Renassaince Festival started last weekend so I worked for three days from 10am to 6pm every day as a fairy. Fairies have a lot of jobs. We put on shows, we give gifts to children and we sprinkle them with fairy dust. Sometimes we help the shopkeepers run errands or bring attention to their store. Last year we did a pirate-fairy battle. I am sad this year we don't have that but this year we are doing our own fairy show. Last weekend it was me, the fairy queen and her daughter doing the shows. This weekend two more fairies may join us. It is fun to work all day at the festival. My mom says she does not "know how I do it" but it is so fun. And hard work. I am happy my sister Mosi is also going to be a fairy this year. But she did not work last weekend and she is only working half days this weekend because she says she can't handle a whole day. But I can! She says she only wants to do it because she gets to sprinkle little kids with fairy dust.

Fashion Design with Brother

My mom went to run some errands with Mosi (she is my big sister, age 14) yesterday and Sunii and I got bored so I started cutting up some of my old clothes and making new fashions out of them. I am so excited because my mom has boxes of clothes in the basement she didn't take to Goodwill yet and she says I can use them for my new fashions. My brother knows how to use the sewing machine so we made a dress together.

He gave me an old T-shirt of his. I cut it into a dress and he sewed it for me. This picture is of a shirt I created. I'll post more creations later!

Fashion Design

I'm making some of my costume for the Rennassaince Faire this Autumn. I work as a fairy all day at the Faire - we are actors in the fairy battle with the pirates and we do many jobs around the Faire for three entire weekends. I work from 9am - 6pm each day. This year my mom and I are making my shoes, my friend's mom is helping me make a costume I designed and I am making my own pirate costume and belt.

Stories for the Letters of the Alphabet

Mom's pretty busy this month so she asked me to do some work for her. She needed someone to make some nice stories for each letter of the alphabet. So I have been working hard. I have been having fun making these stories to add to the first and second grade curriculum at www.Earthschooling.com. I have been drawing some pictures to go with them too. Do you want to see a sample of the story I did for the letter "a"? Mom already did stories for the capital letters so I am doing stories for the lower case letters. If you want to download a sample of one of my stories go to: Earthsessions with Sofi

Mulberry Ink

After our walk today I asked my mom if she had any ink. I bought a really cool feather pen at the farmer's market yesterday and wanted to use it. She said that we could make some from the mulberries. I wrote a card to my dad with the mulberry ink and the feather pen. Here are some pictures of how we made the ink.

Photographing the Fairies

Today we went to photograph the fairies. We wanted to take pictures of them by the really nice mushrooms we saw last week but someone took all the mushrooms away so we took pictures of them in different places. I set the fairies up and my mom took the pictures. We saw a baby bunny and ate some raspberries that were ripe while we were out. We also picked some wild carrot and wild garlic.

First Farmer's Market

Today I had my first actual store. I sold one mermaid and met a lot of people and gave a lot of people my website name. A fiber artist named Wendy came to talk to me. I showed the lady from the Alpaca farm what I made with her alpacas (she has a booth behind us). I made my own sign to go with the store. A lot of people looked at the mermaids and asked questions.

My First DVD

I've made a lot of movies with mom but today I wanted to make a real DVD because I will be setting up a booth at the farmer's market and I want to show people how I make the felted mermaids. I made little packages of roving and supplies and my mom made some DVDs.

Alpaca Farm

Today we went to visit some alpacas at a farm near where we live. They were very cute. They get very hot in the summer and so they have to be hosed down twice every day. My favorite was the chocolate llama. We bought some wool roving from Snowmobile and Hershey's Kiss. When I came home I made some mermaids and food from the roving we bought and some other roving we got in Colorado when we went to the Waldorf conference last year.
